Gyros Protein Technologies is expanding its capabilities by moving to a new state-of-the-art, sustainable LEED certified facility. Their new premises is in the inspiring Lumi building located in the heart of Uppsala, Sweden, and last week they all had a big inauguration of their new head quarter.

Empowering for growth

‘‘We have always invested in growth and strived to create a workplace and corporate culture where both people and the company can grow. We want to continue to be an attractive employer and to appeal to the best talent from a conscious generation. This is a perfect place to do just that,’’ says Mark Vossenaar, general manager, Biopharmaceutical Development Division, Gyros Protein Technologies.

Being a leading provider of immunoassay and peptide synthesis solutions that accelerate the discovery, development and manufacture of biotherapeutics also places special demands on the premises it occupies. By moving the company also secured further business continuity by expanding its production capacity and investing in redundancy.

Investing in business continuity

“Business continuity is important to our customers, who are often using products in regulated environments and being a sole supplier to our technology, it becomes even more important for them”, says Mark Vossenaar.

The production transfer that began this June will be completed, including full manufacturing validation, for all products by the end of 2024.

The Lumi premises are true state-of-the-art. Lots of natural light and wood meet up, all materials are chosen with care, most are recycled. Rainwater recycling and solar panels are key ingredients for creating a low climate footprint. Recycling has been a common theme throughout the entire project – from the structural frame, building materials and walls to interior details. Global sustainability goals and a reduced climate footprint have been guiding lights for the entire project.

Going green as Gyros moves into state-of-the-art Lumi office building

‘‘Moving into the city's greenest, most modern office space has been a journey towards creating something new for the company. As a global company, we consciously work with sustainability and this location helps us realize this ambition,’’
says Mark Vossenaar.

Gyros Protein Technologies has long outgrown the premises it occupied at Glunten Science Park, where they were incidentally one of the first tenants to take up residency in 2001. Now they are one of the first tenants in the new ‘Lumihouse’, which is located in the rejuvenated area of the old Swedish Food Agency, now known as ‘Green Street’. All 60 employees at Gyros Protein Technologies have been involved in one way or another. Eva von Heijne, global operations manager and site director for Gyros Protein Technologies in Uppsala, has been in charge since it all started two years ago.

The old is restored and refreshed

‘‘Everyone who, in addition to their regular work, has pulled a big load to make the move a reality. It has been a big joint project from start to finish. A journey of remake, recycle and repurpose and I think now we are all ready for this new journey to begin”, she says.
